Forks High School facade

In case you didn't know the original Forks High School was torn down this summer with plans to try to save the front facade.  Now the facade is at risk of being torn down.  The school board has to give the community an opportunity to raise alternative funds to save the building and a town meeting will be scheduled soon.

Back from the depths of abandoned blogs.

Hello all, like I said before I haven't abandoned this blog, and still do not intend to.  The family is back in Forks from the hospital, have been for a bit, but things are still hectic.  It should just be two more appointments before our son Brodie can start walking on his own again.  He started kindergarten but has not been able to attend many days because of doctor's appointments.  Also either my wife or I has to accompany him to school to help him get around, this is a difficult task with two working parents.  We missed the best part of summer in Forks because we were living in the hospital for a month.  So now the summer is winding down as are the tourists and Twilight sales.  On the plus side my name is getting around and business is picking up with word of mouth advertising.  I will just keep doing the best I can to get my name out there associated with good work.

Quick Update

Well, if anyone visits this page and you see it hasn't been updated in a while, I'm letting you know I have not abandoned this blog.  I've been out of town, my son was in an accident and is over at Harborview Medical Center.  My wife, his mom, is with him right now but I will be heading back over soon.

Time to hit the ol' watering hole

Well it's another scorcher fur us in Forks, WA.  We hit over 90° yesterday and supposed to hit about 85° today so I think we're going to go down to lake pleasant and do some swimming.  It's so seldom we get the weather to do so around here, we have to jump on it when we have the chance.

Sunny all week, except for the 4th.

Well for me the 4th was a bit of a bust.  The wife had to work and our son was sick as a dog.  We watched the parade in the morning and he enjoyed that, but the rest of the day he slept.  I missed out on the derby and park activities because the little guy was sick, but it's ok cause it was heavy mist all day anyway.  So the vamps got to enjoy the 4ths activities this year.  However since then we have been vampire free as it has been sunshiny and hot outside (anything 80° or higher is sweltering for us).  There were lots of Twilighters in town on and around the 4th so business has been good the past week.

Moonlight Madness

It's Moonlight Madness time here in Forks, which means the shops in our podunk town stay open late tonight.  Usually most stores are closed up by 6 or 7, but on Moonlight Madness they're open from 7-11.  Hey vampires have to shop during the summer too right?  A lot of the store's also run special sales, there's some food and drink vendors around and they run a mini train through town (they used to have a trolley).  They are also shutting part of the road down this year looks like.

Well Twilight: Eclipse premieres tonight and I'll scour the web tomorrow to find shots of the premiere in Port Angeles.  It's been sunny lately here which is nice to see after all that rain.

Officially Summer

Well yesterday marked the first official day of summer and the tourists are starting to come in more and more.  More people are starting to learn that I'm here and I'm getting more business cards handed out.  Things have been slow going, but that was expected at first.  Summer is not going to be my best computer repair time around here as it's the only decent weather we get round here and most people are spending it outside.  That's where I hope the tourist Twilight crowd can help supplement the income a little.  I have pretty cool and unique items, at least once or more a day I get people taking a picture of my product in the window and sign.  As traffic increases hopefully too does the window shopper to shopper ratio.

Sun, Rain, Sun, Rain

Well the sun has been on and off so far this week but we should have mainly sunny days ahead.  I actually got a few sales today, so hopefully the summer tourist season is kicking off.

Sparkling Sunshine

Sunshine has finally broken through the clouds and it looks like it should stick around a little this time.  Tourist traffic is starting to pick up too, so I've got wishful thinking for some foot traffic.  I got business cards ordered and on the way, so I can get those handed out and hopefully get some word of mouth business.

U.S.A. Flags

The city of Forks work crew is out hanging the American flags up in town, I'm getting excited for the Forks old fashioned Fourth of July looking at them.  The flowers there they hung around the start of the springtime.

Rain, Rain go away

More rain this week, but it looks like sunny or at least overcast weather is coming.  Not too many events upcoming but I'm certainly looking forward to the West End Thunder races.  The first races will be on June 26 - 27 at the Forks airport on the South side of town just past the Forks Outfitters store.

Surprisingly Sunny

Well despite what the weather reports said it was going to do it is actually sunny out today, sparkling abound.  Fishing season opens today on all the rivers, so dad has been decently busy on the sporting goods side.  So far I'm not seeing much tourist traffic, but it's early still and school isn't out until next week for a lot of places.

No vampires this morning, possibly this afternoon

Well it's an iffy day for vampires today in Forks, WA.  We started out with some sun, the first in quite a few days, but it has moved to more overcast now.  The weather report says it's supposed to rain more tonight and the 10 day forecast shows nothing but rain.  Now we're used to the rain here in Forks, but that doesn't mean we don't get tired of it once in a while.  I mean come on, it's June but the weather sure isn't acting like it.

More rain, more Twilighters and Twihards

Another vampire friendly day in Forks, WA the rain is pouring and the sun is nowhere to be seen.  There was good traffic for the Memorial day weekend, I just hope it keeps up.  It's been a pretty depressing first 2 months so far, not seeing much foot traffic in the door.  Though I did just get my signage in and I'm told traffic really picks up in the summer.  Here's hoping.

Rainy Day Ribs

Another rainy day here in Forks, some were hoping for sun for the memorial day weekend. I know the fishermen are glad to see the rain, too many sunny days causes the rivers to be too low and clear. Forks Outfitters was hoping for some sunny weather, they're doing they're memorial day ribs special this weekend. People round here don't care to much about the rain though, it's one of the few times you can get cooked ribs here in Forks. That's all for now, got a bunch of stock in the other day and need to do some rearranging.

Grand opening creeping up

Another beautiful overcast day here in Forks, WA, no sun, no rain, just right. Well I was shooting for a June 1st grand opening but all my product won't be in by then. Think I'll open up on the 1st and do my grand opening the week after, everything should have arrived by then.

If it's not one thing it's another.

Well I'm still recovering from throwing my back out and then I was knocked down with a cold. The wife caught it too and she had to call out sick for the day. Hope to be functional tomorrow and hope some more product or my signs come in. It's been an interesting week of weather, we had some pretty big winds and then some hail that actually hurt.

Back

I haven't updated in a while, I've been laid out as I threw my back out. I've been busy comparing wholesalers and ordering stock. I have most of my product ordered, the next main order I have is my Twilight t-shirts. I'm still deciding which of my designs to have printed up as I can only afford to do a few at first. For sizes I think I'm going to stick with medium and large, and I'll probably start out with 4 to 6 designs, see how they sell and go from there.

Fishing derby yesterday, more rain today

The Forks youth fishing derby was yesterday and as usual there was a huge turnout. This was my first year going to the derby since they relocated it to the rearing pond on Bogachiel Way. When I was a kid they used to have it at a stream that ran near the Sportsman Club. I have mixed feelings about the new location, it is definitely a lot easier for the kids to catch fish but it is also a lot more crowded, people were standing shoulder to shoulder almost. Anyways, we had a good time, didn't catch anything unfortunately because it started to rain and the kid wanted to go. I thought is was funny that my wife was surprised at how much I knew about fishing. I haven't been in probably over 10 years and I was never hardcore into it when I was a kid. But I guess it one of the skills you acquire growing up in a fishing town.
Hail and rain so far today, other than that it's a typical overcast day in Forks, just the way I like it.

Sunny Sunday

It's a rare sunny day in Forks, Wa. However because it's Sunday most of the town is shut down. There's lots to do outside though and you don't have to spend any money to enjoy nature. My mom is in town for a visit and we're going to the Lounge restaurant to give it a try. My brother has been there but I haven't yet, I may write a little review about it tomorrow.

Up and running again

Well I'm up and running again, had some downtime due to a blown power supply. Dad has gone turkey hunting in West Virginia after he just got back from turkey hunting in eastern WA. I'm watching the shop for him, not much business currently though.
My custom Twilight greeting cards showed up, and they are nicer than I thought they would be. Got my logo, business name and catchphrase all ready for business cards and signs. Waiting on my resellers license so I can get some vendor applications filled out and get some inventory ordered. I've got a register program for ringing sales, just need to practice on it a bit and then get my inventory entered into it.
I also got my business banking account set up and am waiting on the debit cards to arrive to order some custom Twilight t-shirts. Looking around town at the current offerings I haven't seen a lot of original Twilight merchandise, just a lot of stuff that could be picked up at Wal-mart cheaper. I know when I go visit a tourist destination, I look for something original and unique to the area and that is what I am going to specialize in. I want to have the different, unique and one of a kind products that you can only get in Forks, Wa at the heart of the Twilight saga.

Easter in Forks

Easter Sunday in Forks was actually rainless. The grass was wet this morning but at least it has been a nice overcast day and we got to enjoy an easter egg hunt outside. Usually in Forks we'd do our Easter morning egg hunts inside because of the rain. Going over to my brothers for Easter family dinner, his wife is a vegetarian but she is actually cooking a ham for dinner. Now that's some family love right there.

Forks Easter egg hunt

Just got done with the Forks Easter egg hunt at the Tillicum park ball fields. We walked there and it was overcast weather with the sun peaking out. As soon as we walked through the gates it started raining a little and then as soon as they shouted go for the hunt it started hailing. The kids didn't care they those eggs disappeared into baskets faster than the hail was falling. As soon as the drawings for the prizes were done it stopped raining and the sun came out. It's nice to see that although the town has changed a little with the Twilight phenom the weather still keeps it's sense of humor.

Moved in and starting setup

Well we've got everything off the moving truck and most out of the vehicles. It was an expensive move but we're glad to be here. I got some things brought into the shop and now I just need to start clearing room to setup shop. I'm pretty bummed the arcade machine fell over in the truck and suffered some physical damage on the back and bent one of the joysticks also. Hopefully all the internals are still OK, gonna have to put together and see if it starts up alright. It will probably be a month or two before everything for my shop is ready for operation, so I best get started.

Last day at my job

Well, today was my last day at Comcast, while I will miss the company and my fellow employees, I will not miss the mental stress that comes with the job. We've still got some packing to do so we'll tackle that first thing tomorrow.

Perfect day for vampires

It's another beautiful overcast day in Forks, Wa, my favorite type of weather. I don't claim to be any kind of vampire, but growing up in Forks I definitely share some traits. Overcast is my favorite weather, I don't like the sun it burns my eyes, and I prefer to be more active at night than the day, and I'm a bit of a loner. I'm still amazed at the spotlight Twilight has cast on Forks, I remember when growing up getting excited if they mentioned Forks on the KOMO news weather forecast. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in Forks, it's a very safe, sheltered, tight knit community where everybody knows everybody. That also made some things harder, when someone lost their life it really hit the whole community. I'm really excited to go back though, back to a slower pace of life, where people work for what they have and don't think they are owed everything or that they are better than everyone else. I won't miss the attitudes of the people in the city, the traffic or the commute. Well back to packing for now.

The move to Forks and Twilight country starts

I am an original resident of Forks, WA born and raised. I graduated from Forks High School in 1996 and have left and come back a few times and I'm going back again. It was 2001 when I last lived in Forks and now I've got a beautiful wife and wonderful son that I'm thrilled to expose to all the wonderful things our little town and area has to offer. We've got a lot of the packing done and finishing up the last days of work. My dad owns the Olympic Sporting Goods store in town and I'm going to be opening up my own little shop within his. It will be called Olympic Tech Goods & Services and will feature mainly computer and electronic goods for sale and will offer computer repair services as well. I will of course also have Twilight goods as well, I'm going to offer as many unique and exclusive Twilight items as I can. If anyone reads this and has suggestions of what they would like to see in the store, let me know and I'll do everything I can to accommodate. I hope to be updating this blog daily when we get down there with Forks and Twilight news and goings on. I'm actually watching Twilight in Forks: The Saga of a Real Town as I write this and I must say I am so thankful for what Stephanie Meyer has done for our town. Being the son of a Forks business owner I know first hand what a hard place the town was in before the Twilight series. There are many reasons that I am moving my family back to Forks, the biggest is because of Twilight, without it it wouldn't have been possible at all. I'm glad that I have this opportunity to go back, my dad puts on a good face, but I know things have been hard on him. A few years ago one of our closest family friends fell off a cliff and has suffered some mental and physical damage. His wife was not able to care for him all by herself, so my dad has taken on a large share of the responsibilities as well, he won't show it but I know it's been tough on him. My dad hasn't really gotten into the whole Twilight phenom but I plan on changing that. The Olympic Outfitters has taken a lot of the recognition from the Twilight series but Olympic Sporting Goods is the real sporting goods store in town. Olympic Outfitters was actually Ace Hardware for many years and I wasn't even aware of the name change until a visit last year. The sporting goods store in the books was not a part of a large grocery store, it is a small family business run by Mike Nelson's dad. Well according to the writings that sounds like my dads shop. You could say I'm a little bitter about Ace Hardware (as I know it) claiming all the glory but c'est la vie. Well it's 2:42am and the movie is over and I still have two more days at my current job so I better get to bed. So, if anyone ever actually reads this please stop by Olympic Sporting goods and say hi to Bob (my dad) and in about a week Shay (that's me) and tell us what would make your Forks/Twilight experience more enjoyable. Twilight Breaking Dawn movie moving forward.

If you have been keeping up with the twilight movies, you may know that the fourth book "Breaking Dawn" was in debate as to whether it would get made or not. This was because the actors Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattison were originally contracted for the first 3 books/movies only. It looks like things are moving forward now as the 3 main characters (Tyler Loughten also) have signed on to do the fourth movie and a script is being penned right now. Now the only question is whether it will be one long movie or if they will extend it into two, as "Breaking Dawn" was much longer then the previous 3 books. Personally I hope they extend it into 2 movies, so they can get all the content in there without leaving anything out and to keep the tourism flowing in Forks.

Twilight reality series possibly coming to Forks

So because of Twilight explosion producer Zig Gauthier is looking at creating a reality series based around the citizens of and life in Forks.  Although I love and am grateful for what Twilight has done for the economy in Forks, I don't think a reality show would be the best idea.  Other than Twilight, Forks is a really quiet and quaint town, just small town folk living small town lives.  There are no chain restaurants, no movie theater, no nightlife, and a single 24hr convenience mart.  Now don't get me wrong Forks is a beautiful town with lots to do and see outdoors, it's just not real edge of your seat exciting.  They have already had some casting calls and I'm not sure what else, I guess we'll wait and see what comes to be.

A New Year

  Well it's 2010.....Where's my flying car??!!  Ok so the flying car is not gonna happen anytime soon, so on with life.  My name is Shay, I grew up in the small town of Forks, Washington and will be returning soon to open up a tech shop.  The twilight boom has really boosted the economy in Forks and I'm going to take the opportunity to be my own boss for a while.  My dad owns the Olympic Sporting Goods store on main street and he's giving me the space to open up shop.  I will try to bring some of his shop offerings into the digital age also with some online offerings.  We'll be moving to Forks around March or April so look for my physical location around that time.
  My updates have been few and far between so far, with the new year I am dedicating myself fully to my new entrepreneurship.  I will be updating the site with links that I find interesting and useful.  The posts will mainly center around tech, twilight and Forks.
